MNEMONIC (Three Photographs of You)

Photo 1

One hand to the weeping eye,
(like a poet to the paper),
one gazing the frame.
This is your childhood photo,
the first you shared with me.
You gaze into the camera
like those horror movie protagonists
ready to avenge the murders,
with all the whispering cousins
filling the background.

Photo 2

The one with your Professor.
This is from your University days.
You are wearing the red of the revolution
and the white of the shroud,
(You will say Peace),
squeezing Michael Robartes and the Dancer
between your fingers.
Did the Professor discuss
Ireland and Kashmir,
Yeats and Gonne
You and me too?

Photo 3

You are wearing
that rare smile,
an Aran jumper,
a nude lip gloss.
This is the last photograph,
the one among many
Obituaries,
Martyrs and Missing persons
in a daily Kashmiri newspaper.
It is only
when looked closely
into the pixlated space,
that one recognises,
the Gaze, the Irishness
the Death, the Revolution.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow

Today I can cut open my veins
With a cheap shaving blade
And watch the west of my life
Set in blood red
Today I can leave my home
And not worry about anyone left behind
Family, friends, relations, lovers
Office, colleagues, students
Traps
Today I can leave myself
As everyone left me
Suddenly, violently, painfully
And never looked back
Today I can return God's holy gaze
As blankly as I recieved it
Today I can burn every book
That ever taught me something
Burn it to ashes
And smear the ugly face of earth
Today I can go on ranting
And no one will fucking care
No one should
Today I can even end this poem
Here at this line

THE ALEATORY POINT

(A NON-DELEUZIAN POEM FOR DELEUZE)

The hollowness
Death, dread and void
Pain, agony and ache
Suffering, misery and affliction
The emptiness -
Philosophy is recognizing
The empty square within life's square puzzle
Wisdom rests in reminding onself
That the emptiness remains unfulfilled
That this emptiness actually
Propels every movement within.
Art is the realization
That the square is
One among many shapes
